    White Negroni Sbagliato

Refreshing and splendidly simple, yet fancy at the same time, the White Negroni Sbagliato is basically a sparkling version of the White Negroni. In other words, this cocktail is a less boozy take on the popular blonde variety of the classic Negroni, trading the invigorating strength of gin for the festive sparkle of Prosecco. The result is a delightfully effervescent, and perfectly delicious, aperitif.

White Negroni Sbagliato in a glass champagne flute garnished with a slice of blood orange.

When it comes to garnishing this drink, a lemon or orange slice is your best bet in order to echo the lively citrus notes in the Cocchi Americano and the Salers. And if you enjoy a little dramatic flair, a thin slice of blood orange does the trick very nicely.

    Ingredients for White Negroni Sbagliato.
    • Cocchi Americano
    • Salers
    • Prosecco
    • orange (or lemon) slice, to garnish

    See recipe card for quantities.

Instructions for a White Negroni Sbagliato

Ice being dropped into a mixing glass in front of an ice cube tray with a blue cover.

Place some ice into a mixing glass.

Pale yellow colored liquid being tipped from a steel measuring jigger into a mixing glass with ice in the bottom next to a bottle of Cocchi Americano.

    Add the Cocchi Americano.

Pale straw colored liquid being tipped from a steel measuring jigger into a mixing glass next to a bottle of Salers.

    Add the Salers.

Clear liquid and ice in a mixing glass being stirred with a long metal bar spoon.

    Then stir until well-chilled.

Pale straw colored liquid being strained from a mixing glass into a glass champagne flute.

Strain the mixture into a champagne flute (or a rocks glass with fresh ice, if you prefer).

Pale straw colored liquid being poured from a Prosecco bottle into a glass champagne flute.

    Top with the Prosecco.

Garnish with a thin slice of orange (or lemon), if desired, and serve immediately.

Hint: The White Negroni Sbagliato is most often served over ice, which is wonderful when it is hot outside. But when it's cooler, or happens to be a special occasion, I prefer this cocktail straight up in a champagne flute...all the same lovely flavor, but less frosty and a tad more elegant.

    Variations

The particular choice of spirits used for this White Negroni Sbagliato happen to be my personal favorites, but you can always make substitutions to suit your taste...

    • Cocchi Americano lends a pleasantly bold and refreshing dimension to this cocktail. It's both herbaceous and bright. That said, Lillet Blanc is another great alternative here.
    • Salers is always my go-to gentian liqueur. I love its balanced intensity, as well as the fact that it doesn't include any artificial coloring. But you can also substitute Suze for the bitter component, if you prefer.
