Ambrosial and incredibly refreshing, the calvados & tonic is a wonderfully deceptive cocktail. There are only two ingredients, simply poured over a bit of ice, but the combination of French apple brandy and tonic water somehow manages to taste both abundant and mysterious at the same time. It’s like crisp autumn afternoon in a glass.

This drink pairs particularly well as an aperitif before any dinner featuring pork as the main, but it is lovely anytime.
Ingredients for Calvados & Tonic
- ice
- calvados
- tonic water
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
Fill a glass with ice. Measure the calvados and pour it over the ice.
Add the tonic water and give it a quick stir.
No need to garnish this drink, in my humble opinion...but if you feel the need, I would opt for a paper thin slice of your favorite apple variety.
Hint: Quality tonic water makes an enormous difference here. Go for the fancy stuff. The elderflower version by Fever-Tree works particularly well in this drink, adding a lovely floral dimension.
